Eating out in Lostwithiel update summer 2011
There have been some changes in town, so thought I would give you all a list of what is what. All are within a 5 to 10 minute walk of Penrose (ok slightly longer coming back up the hill with a full tummy!).
Pubs:
The Globe - doesn't look much from the outside but is lovely inside - a good all rounder as they have been there the longest and go from pie & chips to fresh fish. They get very busy as they have a good reputation. Quiz night every Sunday, music possibly on a Friday.
The Earl of Chatham - just over the railway tracks and run by mother & daughter Jackie & Kate (was my beautician). A real traditional locals pub with good home cooked food at a reasonable price. Many guests have had a jolly good night there! Quiz night on a Tuesday.
The Royal Talbot - a big spralling pub with a grill menu in the bar and a separate restaurant and more expensive menu.
The Royal Oak - just re-opened and run by Lucie & Nathan. The menu will evolve as they get going and will be more bistro.
The Kings Arms - only a small lunch menu but a brilliant drinking pub and very friendly. Quiz night on Thursday and music every Saturday. Good for football and other events that go on.
Restaurants:
Trewithan - definately one of the best fine dining restaurants in Cornwall. Paul & Clare work tirelessly to make every meal the best it can be. Booking is definately advised.
Asquiths - newly opened and guest's reviews have been very good. A mix between bistro and fine dining. Booking is advised as the chef makes sure that he is not over loaded so all dishes are the best they can be.
Terra Nova - good bistro. Terry has a new chef starting and the menu is likely to go more Italian. And they open Sunday & Monday in summer!
Takeaways:
Fish & Chips in the Parade - and you can eat in, or take to the river side where there are tressel benches.
Chinese takeaway - and they deliver!! We have tried this service to make sure it works!!
During summer Bella Mama Deli does pizzas and curries on a Friday night.
We are no doubt extremely lucky in Lostwithiel to have so many fab places to eat and within walking distance.
