Check out time is 10am, as we need time to clean rooms.
Parking is at the back of the house off Scrations Lane (there is a local map on the Contact Us page), please let us know if you are bringing a van, anything larger than a Sprinter needs to be parked in town. We are happy to pick you up from the Lostwithiel train station or the coach stop – just let us know the day before.
Our cancellation policy is:
Your deposit is payable on booking and is non refundable. Final payment can be made by cheque or cash on departure as we are not set up to accept credit cards in the house. If you book via the Online Booking you can pay the deposit by card.

Accessibility at Penrose
We look to help with the needs of all our guests and the following will show you what we can do.
You can check in from 4pm (please let us know if you are going to be later than 9pm), and check out is by 10am on departure.
Travelling to Lostwithiel can be done in several ways. The most environmentally friendly is by train (Lostwithiel has its own station and trains stop at regular intervals), or by National Express coach (the stop is in the middle of town). We are more than happy to come and pick you up. Directions to Penrose are on the Contact Us page.
Lastly you can travel by car. We have parking at the back of the house, off Scrations Lane (please let us know if you are bringing a van – anything larger than a Sprinter needs to park in town), and we can park up to 7 cars with a slight overflow at the front of the house in the driveway. We are more than happy to park your car for you, as we are on a hill. There is lighting in the car park at night.
The car park is on the same level as the kitchen entrance, and we are glad to help you with your luggage. We will also guide you to your room and explain all we and Cornwall have to offer.
From the kitchen you go through to a beautiful, large, magnificently tiled hallway. There is a comfy chair, lots of maps, walking books and information to use during your stay, plus a fridge you can use.
Off the hallway is the dining room, our own private lounge and one of the two downstairs bedrooms (the other is accessed from the outside). All the main doorways are between 80-88cm wide. And of course the lovely staircase (over a metre wide). You need to check out the different spindle patterns and the 20 steps over 3 sections to the first floor.
In the dining room we have several tables (all with a minimum height of 72cm) and a high chair is available for the little ones. There is a computer with internet access for all to use. Free Wifi is available everywhere bar Room 7.
Mobile phone reception can come and go; you are welcome to use ours for local calls.
Bedrooms
Rooms 1 – 5 (more details are on the Accommodation page) are on the first floor, with your own outside access via a wooden outside staircase to the back of the house and car park.
Smokers have a metal ash bin just by the first floor exit and umbrellas for when it rains! (Surely not in sunny Cornwall!!)
Rooms 6 & 7 are on the ground floor and have access via the kitchen or the first floor exit.
Inside the stairs and bedrooms are all fitted with short pile carpet, the ensuites and kitchens are either high quality lino or slate flooring. The light bulbs are mainly long life; the TV’s, Freeview and DVD/CD’s have remote controls, teletext and subtitles.
There is a full fire alarm system, and we have had a recent fire department inspection and have been given a clean bill of health. Emergency exits are explained on check in, and details are in each room.
En-suites
All the doors are between 66cm and 70cm wide. The hand basins are 83cm to 86cm high. The toilets are 42cm high. The baths are 47cm from the floor. The showers have a step to the maximum of 10cm.
Outside
As the house is at the end of a Victorian terrace, the garden is on three sides. Starting at the back of the house, there is a concrete car park accessed from Scrations Lane (the first of a few of the hills you will come across in Cornwall). This leads either to the kitchen entrance on the left over gravel, or on the other side the wooden staircase and the patio with a wooden bench and with Room 7’s entrance. To the right of the patio, three steps lead to a gravel path around the side of the house to the front. At the front to the left there are 5 granite steps to the front door and a lawned area with a wooden bench. To the right a tarmac path and a set of granite steps down to the driveway, which then leads to the main road. The granite steps can get a little slippery in the wet.
