Cooked breakfast is served between 8.15am and 9am each morning. As we cook everything fresh we reserve you a specific time and ask you to fill in a pre-order form. This really helps us in the morning to provide you with a better service and helps with any wastage. Of course, we are flexible and we know things can change over night so we will try to accommodate any request. Continental breakfast is available as a help yourself at anytime before 8.15am.
The dining room in Penrose Bed & Breakfast, where breakfast is served, is a beautiful reminder of the opulence of a bygone era, with a large slate fireplace with log burner, cornicing, picture rail and very high ceiling. We also have something of this day and age – acomputer with Internet access, which is for anyone to use, and usually has photos from around Cornwall showing.
Breakfast consists of your choice off the cold buffet. This includes a choice of branded cereals with semi skimmed milk, fresh fruit, grapefruit segments, natural fat free yoghurt, nuts & seeds and you can make as much toast (white or wholemeal) as you want, and condiments include locally made jam and Heidi’s homemade marmalade, plus marmite, honey, lemon curd, nutella and peanut butter. For summer we have individually wrapped different cheeses. We try to cater for other dietary requirements, so please let us know how we can help.
The Full Cooked English Breakfast consists of:
locally farmed grilled free range Cornish unsmoked back bacon (gluten free)
locally farmed and handmade grilled sausages (from Liddicoats butchers in Lostwithiel)
(gluten free sausages from Liddicoats are available on request)
locally farmed free range eggs either fried or scrambled
(gluten free, cream used in the scrambled eggs)
grilled fresh tomato (gluten free)
hash brown (gluten free)
sauteed fresh mushrooms (butter, oil, salt and cracked black pepper used)
Lincolnshire vegetarian sausages
or you can have two kippers with butter
or smoked salmon in scrambled eggs with dill
Plus you can have lovely hot porridge (semi skimmed milk used)
You have a choice of tomato sauce, brown sauce, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, tobasco sauce and English mustard – if you require any other accoutrement please let us know.
We wait until you arrive in the dining room before we start to cook your breakfast, so everything is fresh on the plate, hence we don’t do boiled or poached eggs (mushrooms, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon and kippers are enough for me to juggle all at once!).
Beverages include a selection of 10 types of tea & herbal teas (peppermint, earl grey, green tea, everyday tea, assam etc), freshly ground medium roast coffee served in cafétieres,orange juice, pink pineapple juice, bottled mineral water and squash. For those who are cutting down on the caffeine, we have decaf tea, and decaf cafetiere or instant coffee.
